Ape Behaviour & Ecology Group

Prof. Kathelijne Koops’s research group is dedicated to answering the age-old question— what makes us human?

By exploring the origins of behavior through tool use, we can better understand our own evolutionary path. Nut cracking, termite fishing, and ant dipping are some behaviours that multiple chimpanzee communities use tools.

It’s not every day that I get to illustrate the Great Apes, but when those days come, it’s magical. I watched hours of YouTube videos in preparation. Dr. Koops enthusiasm for her research made this project a joy to work on.
